M A X V I E W

In 1998 I joined MaxView Corporation as CTO and Director of Product Development. One of my first responsibilities was to transform SourceView, a 16-bit application inherited from another company, into MaxView, a 32-bit application with a contemporary user interface. With no specification describing the product architecture or data structure, and poorly written code devoid of comments, the entire product had to be reverse engineered and nearly completely rewritten. In addition to my roll as a principal developer, I led a team of software engineers, quality assurance engineers, and technical writers in this effort.

MaxView software is widely used throughout the construction industry for creating secure, compact documents which can be distributed via the Internet and viewed with a free reader. MaxView replaces the older paper document distribution system with a more efficient electronic solution. Engineering and architectural drawings, site survey maps, graphics, photos and text documents can all be distributed via the Internet in a single MaxView Document.

Feature Enabling Keys

MaxView has several product levels offering advance functionality which can be enabled by installing a Feature Enabling Key in the free reader. Each FEK allows access to specific functionality within the product and may be set to expire after a specified date or product version. FEKs can also include tokens which support the "pay as you go" business model.

An FEK installed on an individual computer will enable MaxView to the specified level for all documents viewed on that computer. An FEK can also be installed in an individual document, enabling MaxView to the specified level on any computer used to view that document.

MaxView Express

MaxView Express is a website and SQL database which interacts with MaxView to provide Internet document distribution and project collaboration. Architects and engineers assemble project documents into a MaxView Document, upload the entire document set to the website, and then invite other users to download the documents. MaxEx users can place notes and other "markups" on the documents and then return them to the website. All project participants are automatically notified when updates and markups are submitted to the website. All project data and user markups submitted to the website are permanently saved proving a secure record of project communications.

I was instrumental in the design and development of MaxView Express, directed the development team, and was also one of the principal developers.
